Boundary Control and Estimation for Underbalanced Drilling With Uncertain Reservoir Parameters

چکیده

In underbalanced drilling (UBD), the bottom hole pressure is kept below pore pressure, causing pressure-dependent influx of reservoir gas into wellbore that makes system unstable at low drawdowns. this article, we propose a feedback controller which stabilizes system, represented by “reduced drift flux model (DFM),” around an arbitrary setpoint, while using only topside measurement and assuming unknown parameters. A particular challenge with problem distributed highly nonlinear nature dynamics, where DFM” models gas–liquid flow as transport equation nonlocal integral source term. An observer estimates concentration, downhole parameters solving dynamics backward relative to how rises in well. The control inputs are then constructed designing target states over next sampling period again reversed obtain required pressures. resulting implemented 2-min zero-order hold accommodate actuation limitation situation on actual rig. Finally, results illustrated simulations industry standard formulation plant model.

Supervisory control for underbalanced drilling operations

Good flow and pressure control is essential for successful Underbalanced Drilling (UBD) operations. This work evaluates the use of Model Predictive Control (MPC) for integrated control of well conditions and the topside separation system during UBD. The downhole well pressure, separator liquid levels, and the separator pressure are controlled by manipulation of the rig pump, the choke, and the ...

a mathematical model for estimation of gas reservoir parameters with use of optimal control theory

most of authors (1-7) have used discontinious methods based on trial and error procedures for determination of optimum distribution of kh and ?h. optimal control theory has not been used for gas reservoirs. hence, in this paper optimal control theory is utilized for mathematical simulation of gas reservoir and optimum distributions of kh and ?h are presented. one of themain advantages of this n...

Feasibility of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide as a Drilling Fluid for Deep Underbalanced Drilling Operations

Feasibility of drilling with supercritical carbon dioxide to serve the needs of deep underbalanced drilling operations has been analyzed. A case study involving underbalanced drilling to access a depleted gas reservoir is used to illustrate the need for such a research. For this well, nitrogen was initially considered as the drilling fluid. Dry nitrogen, due to its low density, was unable to ge...

Pressure Loss Estimation of Three-Phase Flow in Inclined Annuli for Underbalanced Drilling Condition using Artificial Intelligence

Underbalanced drilling as multiphase flow is done in oil drilling operation in low pressure reservoir or highly depleted mature reservoir. Correct determination of the pressure loss of three phase fluids in drilling annulus is essential in determination of hydraulic horsepower requirements during drilling operations. In this paper the pressure loss of solid-gas-liquid three-phase fluids flow in...
